Activating an IWatch. Confused. When I turned it on, it shows that I must place an iPhone next to the watch; I guess to activate it. I bought the watch for the health features and to use as a phone. I did not see anything in the fine print explaining this requirement. Now, it seems I must find someone with an iPhone to activate it. Bummer!

Buy only from apple store. Not here.

Bought the gps + cellular and was told at att store they cannot connect simply because it’s not the same cell service. IMEI locked by Another service.

Do not purchase from this seller you don’t know where it’s coming from. Waste of money and waste of a Christmas gift.

Disappointed. I’m very upset with how it was thrown in a bag to be delivered. With something as expensive as this I would’ve expected a box and a little more care. Not only was that upsetting it was also a dead giveaway of what it was so it ruined the surprise.

Important to check what you really want from your watch before purchasing. It's not clearly stated but this phone does not support streaming songs or synchronizing songs from Spotify. You can only sync songs from Apple Music service. It also does not have it's own sleep tracking tool and all the ones I've tried have are way worse than my previous fitbit sleep tracking. Besides it's important to be aware you will have to purchase a subscription service from your mobile operator for using LTE. It does not simply work with your existing number/plan. Battery life is poor, about 1 day if compared my fitbit which is simpler but has a 4 to 5 day battery life.

Buyer beware if you use this for hands free or rely on accurate up to date information. As of the time of this review Apple has not fixed the OS issue of updating or app refresh to this watch. If you purchase this to get accurate up to date information pushes from your phone you will be disappointed. For example, if you use the built in "Stocks" app, Apple states it will update randomly, not realtime. To test it put in bitcoin (BTC) as a ticker, this is a 24 hour traded commodity. When I looked this morning it still said yesterday's price. (Off by over $1000.00) To get accurate info you need to go in and out of the app. So much for hands free. The refresh of background apps is unreliable. I spent over 52 hours with Apple trying to get this issue fixed, sending it back and very disappointed.

Low battery life. Not worth the money.

Have to charge it by the end of the day..unlike Harmon...charge by the end of the week. Battery life killed the deal.

Manufacturing seal was broken. This item arrived to me without the manufacturer seal and it wasn’t not connecting to my cell.

Bad battery life. Everything on the watch is spectacular but unfortunately the battery seems worse then the others.

Should have bought a 3 if anything from Apple.

Here were my goals / reasons for buying this:
  1. I noticed that the two main reasons I needed to check my phone were to see the date and time or to check text messages.
  2. I wanted something to be able to record physical activity / workouts.
As far as the first goes - the goal is met. I can easily know the date, time, and see who sent a text message as well as read a few lines from it to know if it requires an immediate response. So that goal is met.

As far as number two goes - I'm pretty disappointed. Yes, it will record your steps and it sort of does some heart stuff, but for whatever reason, there are three separate apps for your heart - the BPM monitor, the ECG app and the health app. I don't understand why it is all disjointed. The health app on the phone contains the ECG functionality. This is where all of this just seems to not make any sense to me. I'm in IT and have published apps for Apple, so this isn't unfamiliar territory to me.

Now comes in what they call workouts. What's GREAT about them is that the watch can auto-sense when you're starting and stopping a workout. What makes this useless for me is that I'm a massive walker. I can walk 5 miles a day without a thought or over 10 when the weather is great and I have the time. I wanted to capture the amount of walking I do as it relates to burning calories so I used the 'walk outdoors' workout. This was important to me because I also want to record gym workouts. The "auto start" feature ruined it all for me. Whenever I'd start moving anywhere it would try to start a workout, so I had to disable it. But with all this - the Activity app perfectly records all my walking but for whatever reason can't just send the data to the workout app. The workout app needs to start (even while the activity app is running and recording the same data) to have the data visible when reporting workout results.

My biggest complaints are these:
  1. Some stuff needs to be controlled via the watch app on your phone. Some stuff needs to be controlled in settings on the watch itself. There's no way to know when to use what.
  2. While I *love* how easy it is to pick a new watch face, customizing (at least the level I want to) is incredibly difficult. You can easily swap cities in the weather app for example, but if you don't want the weather app taking the entire width of the watch and just show 3 days, it's nearly impossible.
  3. Battery life is not so great. You can't get a full day out of it if you're using it with BT and doing more than just checking the time.
  4. Apple software quality is less than iphones etc. For example, I use the timer app a lot - but Apple released software the made the watch freeze every time the 3 or 5 minute timer was used (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250829557) AND there's no way to set up my own timer as a default option. I can only select 1 / 3 / 5 / 10 / 15 / 30 / 1hr / 2hrs. You can scroll all the way to the bottom to setup a one time custom timer that will appear in your list of recent timers, but you need to do that every time you open the app. So if you need a 15 second timer, it will take you longer to open it - even from the recent list if it is still in there - than just counting to 15.
I expected that I would be getting a lot more than just what my goals are, but it is overall a big disappointment. I think I would have been a lot less disappointed if I just got a 3 and saved the $. Obviously the software functionality isn't very different, but I wouldn't have had as high of expectations with a lower cost.

Stuck with cellular watch with no service. Don’t buy the Cellular version if you have a prepaid plan. You cannot use your watch with those plans. I tried to switch to a regular’postpaid’ plan and the total cost difference to add the watch was $50 more.

Expensive toy gives time and activity level. The watch is an expensive little work station, slaved off my iPhone. It spends it’s battery in less than a day and charges overnight. It does give weather, physical activity assessment, and time.
