BALI COLIVING SPACES: WHICH ONE IS FOR YOU ?

This month I'm in Bali, Indonesia and over my first two weeks, I've visited 6 Coliving spaces across Ubud and Canggu to grab some footage and share with you my thoughts on each.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the concept,

“Co-living is a way of living focused on a genuine sense of community, using shared spaces and facilities to create a more convenient and fulfilling lifestyle.”

So, the spaces in the video are more than just shared accomodation.

What's up guys Chris here from christhefreelancer.com and in today's video I'm counting down the best code living spaces here in Bali Indonesia

So, it's been just over two weeks that I've arrived here in Bali and over that time I've visited six co-living spaces across Ubud and Canggu to grab some footage and share with you guys my thoughts on each of these spaces.

But first for those of you who might not be familiar with the term what exactly is co-living? Well the term hasn't exactly made its way into any major dictionary yet, but according to the collective.co “co-living is a way of living focused on a genuine sense of community using shared spaces and facilities to create a more convenient and fulfilling lifestyle.”

Essentially, the focus on co-living is that you build connections with the people that you live with and ultimately you'll feel more at home when you're traveling to distant places like Bali for instance

With that being said, let's start with the first space I visited OUTSITE. Located on Jalan Pantai Batubelong in Canggu, the Bali addition of OUTSITE features five traditional javanese bungalows surrounding a pool with day beds for chilling out or getting some work done

As you enter the building you'll find a few tables for having meals or setting up for work. And if you follow the stairs a second floor patio for chilling out and staring out into the rice fields

As mentioned the rooms are housed in these bungalow style huts and they go anywhere from sixty five US dollars per night and as low as two hundred and twenty-four per week according to the outsite website. Keep in mind though that OUTSITE members get up to thirty percent off and monthly deals sent to their inbox so if you're part of their existing ecosystem you'll probably be getting a better deal. As for the community there unfortunately it looks like Outsiders just getting started and I was only able to meet one other member

So I really didn't get a sense of that community but if you're familiar with my other videos from New York and LA you can see what it's like to stay at OUTSITE and I would say the experience would be pretty consistent across all their spaces

Next up is COWORKSURF also in Canggu but a bit further off the beaten path. As described to me by one of the founders, COWORKSURF is a small business just set up recently by two buddies and by the looks of things it seems to be really working out. Apart from the big private room downstairs, it appeared that most of the beds were booked out. And the members were super chill and friendly. As for the accommodations they're the only so-called co-living space that I know of with dorm style beds and much like a hostel. I found the members quite young and social but at the same time creative and driven.

Of course they couldn't call themselves COWORKSURF without incorporating a bit of surfing in their offering as well and so along with your membership you'll get unlimited surf lessons with their resident teacher anger. Really cool model and I love the vibe but maybe not exactly the spot for the more older conservative types.

And for that kind of space we're going to head up into the mountains of Ubud to visit a space known as ROAM. Sitting at the premium end of co-living spaces available in Bali, ROAM Ubud location is a former boutique hotel turned co-living space which seems to attract an older and more conservative clientele

A few of the members were actually uncomfortable with being filmed and therefore their faces are blurred out in this video. The space itself is actually quite unique. There are two dozen rooms that encircle a pool and a co-working space sits on the rooftop across from an open space for events like nightly talks yoga and capoeira

I think all the rooms were about the same and go from 78 US dollars per night or a thousand six hundred and fifty per month. As far as co-living spaces go it's definitely one of the priciest options in Bali but with ROAM other locations including places like San Francisco London and Miami, you can kind of tell that ROAM's market segment is a bit more on the higher end.

Sticking in Ubud the next space I checked out was OUTPOST a co-working in co-living space that offers two floors of comfortable co-working plenty of weekly events amenities like a pool and of course carefully thought-out accommodation for members. Unlike the previous spaces in this video, our postcode living area is separate from the co-working space. A short 10-minute walk or one minute scooter ride down the road.

The co-living space is currently partnered with the Bali spirit hotel but assume building their own entrances to numerous villas overlooking the rice terraces of Ubud.

The poolside room is currently going for just over a thousand U.S. a month and the second floor suite room a little bit extra at 1,100 but those prices of course include co-working and speaking of co-working

After the tour I got a chance to use the co-working space which if you just need a place to work is currently 229 US dollars per month for an unlimited membership.

Next on my list is DOJO a co-working space I first visited back in 2016 but is now expanding with its own co-living space in Canggu. Coming back after two years I've seen the co-working space has definitely grown in popularity. If you're not familiar with DOJO it's a renovated pool villa turned co-working space that hosts a lively community of freelancers remote workers and entrepreneurs and much like OUTPOST. The co-living space is just a short drive away rooms at DOJOs co-living space are about to become available and are starting at 385 US dollars per week or just over a thousand per month. This price of course incorporates a co-working space membership to DOJO as well as a soft landing package to get you to your new accommodation and set up online as soon as possible.

Finally, a late addition to my search for the best co-living spaces in Bali is MATRA, a space that just opened up only about a month previous the coolest feature of this car living space is the top floor which apparently is the highest in Canggu and features views of the area all the way out to the beach

There are two sections to the top floor and in the second you have this quiet space with ergonomic chairs to get productive. My friend Luis recently moved into this room and is paying six million rupiah for the month which also gains him access to the co-working space above

So there you have a guy's six of the best co-living spaces in Bali as you might have noticed these are all evil located in Canggu or Ubud

So if you're coming to Bali and wondering whether to stay in Ubud or Canggu stay tuned for my next video which is going to be all about the major differences between the mountainous region of Ubud and the trendy beachside neighborhood of Canggu
